Jesse Minter credits lessons from Saints loss for Ravens' turnaround

Geoffrey A Knox, Ravens Wire Wed, October 14, 2026 at 4:06 AM UTC · 3 min read About Our Ads Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement The Baltimore Ravens haven't taken a straight path to their recent success, and Jesse Minter believes that might be exactly what his team needed. After a frustrating loss to the New Orleans Saints , Baltimore has found ways to win three straight games, including a tough road win over the Atlanta Falcons without Lamar Jackson .

For Minter, the significance goes beyond the results. The Ravens are learning how to respond when games become uncomfortable, key players are unavailable, and an opponent threatens to take control.

Those lessons aren't always pleasant, but the head coach believes they can become a valuable part of a team's identity. Speaking with the media Monday , Minter explained why Baltimore's earlier disappointment may have helped prepare the team for its recent run.

"Yes, and I do not really love to think about the things that have happened before."

That was Coach Minter's response when asked whether winning a game like the most recent Sunday Night Football contest can change the team's mindset after failing in similar spots in the past.

"We lost a game like that in Week 2 with this team, so I think that is the fresh memory. Since then, we have really had three games where, obviously in Rio, the ending there I think gave our guys confidence that we could win a game like that."

Minter also pointed to the team's ability to overcome challenges in subsequent games, including a situation that required Baltimore to recover an onside kick. Each experience gave the Ravens another opportunity to learn how to handle pressure together.

"So, confidence is gained by going through things and going through things together, and I do not know if we would have the results of the last three weeks if the Saints game did not happen. I think there are always ways you can take losses like that. You can learn from them and really try to improve, get better, look at the things that you did well and build on things. I think we did that after that game. So again, [with] this particular team, to be able to do that, I think is definitely a major benefit to the psyche, the confidence and the belief that we can win games like that in the fourth quarter."

That perspective matters because close victories can expose weaknesses as easily as they build confidence. Baltimore still has areas to improve, but it has also shown it can respond when things don't go according to plan.

The coach's comments suggest he sees the Saints' loss as more than a disappointing result. It became a reference point for how the team could respond differently the next time it faced adversity.

Baltimore's victory over Atlanta provided another example of that progress. The Ravens had to overcome an early turnover that led to a defensive touchdown, manage difficult defensive situations late in regulation, and execute in overtime.

Minter was particularly pleased that the early setback didn't produce panic on the sideline. Instead, he saw players keep supporting one another and trusting there was enough time to recover.

That doesn't mean Baltimore has mastered the art of closing games. The Ravens still need to clean up mistakes that force them into difficult situations in the first place. However, they are accumulating experiences that can help them respond when those moments arrive.

For Minter, the real benefit of the recent winning streak may be what it teaches the team about itself. Baltimore is learning that adversity doesn't have to dictate the outcome, as long as the players keep executing together. That belief could prove increasingly valuable as the Ravens move deeper into the season.
