Wireless Festival canceled after UK bars rapper Ye over antisemitic remarks

LONDON (AP) — The rapper formerly known asKanye Westwas barred Tuesday from entering the U.K., where he was scheduled to headline theWireless Festivalin July, after a backlash over Ye's history of antisemitic remarks.

Associated Press

Festival organizers canceled the three-day outdoor event as a result of the travel ban and said those who had bought tickets would get refunds.

Ye applied for an electronic travel authorization to visit the U.K., but it was blocked by the government on the grounds that his presence in the country would not be “conducive to the public good.”

“Kanye West should never have been invited to headline Wireless,” Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in a statement posted on social media. “This government stands firmly with the Jewish community, and we will not stop in our fight to confront and defeat the poison of antisemitism. We will always take the action necessary to protect the public and uphold our values.”

The rapper, who changed his name in 2021, had been expected to play his first U.K. dates for more than a decade in front of around 150,000 revelers over three nights July 10-12 at the Wireless Festival, in London’s Finsbury Park. Other acts for the festival had not yet been announced.

The event's organizers had been under mounting pressure from sponsors and politicians to cancel the gigs by the rapper, who has drawnwidespread condemnationfor making antisemitic remarks and voicing admiration for Adolf Hitler.

Last year, Ye released a song called “Heil Hitler” and advertised a swastika T-shirt for sale on his website. Officials in Australia canceled the musician's visa in July after the release of the single.

The 48-year-old apologized in January with a letter, published as a full-page advertisement in The Wall Street Journal. He said his bipolar disorder led him to fall into “a four-month long, manic episode of psychotic, paranoid and impulsive behavior that destroyed my life.”

Wireless sponsors Pepsi, Rockstar Energy and Diageopulled out of the festivalsince Ye was announced as the headliner.

In a statement issued Tuesday before his travel authorization was revoked, Ye said he “would be grateful for the opportunity to meet with members of the Jewish community in the U.K. in person, to listen.

“I know words aren’t enough — I’ll have to show change through my actions,” he said. “If you’re open, I’m here.”

Phil Rosenberg, president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, had said the group would be willing to meet with the musician if he pulled out of the festival.

“The Jewish community will want to see a genuine remorse and change before believing that the appropriate place to test this sincerity is on the main stage at the Wireless Festival,” Rosenberg said.

Organizer Festival Republic had stood by Ye. In a statement issued Monday, managing director Melvin Benn urged people to offer the performer “forgiveness and hope.”

“We are not giving him a platform to extol opinion of whatever nature, only to perform the songs that are currently played on the radio stations in our country and the streaming platforms in our country and listened to and enjoyed by millions,” the statement said.

Announcing the cancellation, Festival Republic said that “multiple stakeholders were consulted in advance of booking Ye and no concerns were highlighted at the time.

“Antisemitism in all its forms is abhorrent, and we recognize the real and personal impact these issues have had,” it said in a statement. “As Ye said today, he acknowledges that words alone are not enough, and in spite of this still hopes to be given the opportunity to begin a conversation with the Jewish community in the U.K.”

The Community Security Trust, which works to protect British Jews, said the government had made the right decision.

“Anti-Jewish hatred should have no place in society and cultural leaders have a role to play in ensuring that is the case,” it said in a statement.

“People who show genuine and meaningful remorse for previous antisemitic behavior will always receive a sympathetic hearing from the Jewish community, but that process must come before this kind of public rehabilitation.”

A representative for Ye didn’t reply to a request for comment.

ICE agents shoot and wound man during traffic stop in Central California

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents shot a man, who was then taken to a hospital, while attempting to arrest him during a targeted traffic stop Tuesday in California’s Central Valley, the agency said.

CNN Law enforcement work the scene of a reported shooting in Stanislaus County, California, on Tuesday. - KCRA

Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons said the ICE officers fired defensive shots after the person they stopped attempted to run an agent over, according to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security.

The shooting happened near Interstate 5 in Patterson, about 90 miles south of Sacramento.

DHS identified the person shot as Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez, an undocumented immigrant and “18th Street Gang member wanted in El Salvador for questioning in connection to a murder.”

Attorney Patrick Kolasinski, who is representing Mendoza Hernandez, disputed the DHS account of the encounter and said the agents may have mistaken his client for someone with a similar name, theAssociated Pressreported.

CNN reached out to Kolasinski for comment.

Mendoza Hernandez, a day laborer, has a 2-year-old daughter and is engaged to a US citizen, Kolasinski told the AP.

Mendoza Hernandez’s family wasn’t able to immediately see him in the hospital, but were told he was stable, Kolasinski added.

Two dashcam videos obtained by CNN show a car crossing over the highway lane divider after being surrounded by agents. One agent is seen running out of the way of the car. It’s not clear exactly when agents fired at the vehicle because the footage does not have sound.

“As officers approached the car, the wanted gang member weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run an officer over. Following their training, our officers fired defensive shots to protect themselves, their fellow agents, and the public,” the DHS statement said.

DHS says its agents have been the target of increasing violence, citing more than180 vehicle attackssince Trump’s second term started. But the administration’s initial accounts of shootings involving federal agents have, in some cases, changed over time – or been proven wrong altogether.

The FBI is conducting an investigation, Acting Special Agent in Charge Eugene Wu said. The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office told CNN it’s assisting, and it confirmed no local law enforcement was involved with the incident.

Dashcam footage captures incident

At least three law enforcement agents are seen surrounding a black vehicle on a road near Interstate 5, video obtained by CNN shows. The black vehicle then backs up and its passenger-side door hits another car on the road.

Agents then point their guns at the vehicle as it stops for about two seconds. The car then turns left and crosses over the highway lane divider, while an agent runs out of the way of the car.

It’s not clear when exactly agents fired at the vehicle.

Christina Valencia, whose Tesla captured one of the videos obtained by CNN, said she noticed the flashing lights from her car.

“All of a sudden I heard like a shot fired … and then maybe like 10 seconds later, I heard about five or six more go off,” she said.

CNN cannot independently confirm Valencia’s account of the gunfire.

From there, the two agents ran to their trucks and then drove in the direction of the suspect, she said. They ultimately ended up under a nearby overpass.

When the shots started, she said she put her car in reverse. “I was scared because I was like there’s nowhere for me to go,” Valencia said.

Credibility of DHS accounts questioned in prior car-involved incidents

While agents have beensubjected to violencesince the start of Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration last year, DHS has also at times faceda crisis of credibilityregarding claims it has made in the aftermath of some high-profile incidents. In arrests and use-of-force encounters across the country, versions provided by DHS of some eventshave been contradictedby eyewitness accounts and bystander video and challenged by independent judges.

Altercations in or around vehicles have been asteady symbolof the administration’s immigration crackdown, includingcar crashesbetween federal agents and people who try to flee, traffic stopsturned violentand alleged rammings involving pro-immigrant activists.

The phrase “weaponized his/her vehicle” has beenrepeated by officialsincluding former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem when she described Renee Good, a Minneapolis mother shot and killed by an ICE agent this year. Good’s death prompted widespread protests and her burgundy SUV has become a recognizable symbol of the chaotic immigration operations in Minneapolis.

The Trump administration has also come under criticism for deporting migrants it alleges are gang members, without providing evidence, such as in the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. It accused wrongly deported Abrego Garcia of being an active member of MS-13 - a claim his lawyer and family deny. Abrego Garcia is currentlyfighting against deportationin federal court.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has urged federal law enforcement to collaborate with state and local partners in investigating Tuesday’s shooting.

“As is established practice, we expect our federal law enforcement partners to appropriately collaborate with state and local law enforcement as this matter is investigated,” Newsom’s office saidon X.

Prince HarryandMeghan Markleare once again making headlines, this time over their upcoming polo-themed series. The project was initially expected to spotlight elite sport and high society, but new rumors suggest a more dramatic tone. According to insiders, the series may lean into intense rivalries and emotional dynamics that go beyond the field. Now, these claims are generating curiosity about the couple’s evolving creative direction.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly aiming something different, claims source

According to insider claims, theSussexesare taking a noticeably different approach to their latest Netflix project. Rather than focusing on prestige storytelling, a source alleged the couple is now prioritizing content designed to generate buzz and broader audience appeal. “This is a huge shift,” the insider reportedly told “Naughty But Nice,” suggesting the project is “bold” and geared more toward attention than accolades.

The “ultra-exclusive” polo show is said to explore more than just the sport itself. Sources allege it will highlight personal rivalries, power dynamics, and relationships within that environment. One claim suggests the narrative leans into “intense competition — on and off the field,” where conflicts may evolve into more emotionally charged connections.

Another source described the tone as having a “raw, provocative edge,” though this remains speculation. According to the claim, the narrative may lean into themes where ambition, status, and personal connections intersect in dramatic ways. This has fueled rumors that the series could include undertones of “sexual tension.” “This is Harry and Meghan 2.0,” the insider added. “Less prestige, more pulse. Less awards, more heat — and a lot more cash.”

The reported shift comes as the couple continues to expand their content slate. Their previous Netflix projects, including “Harry & Meghan” and “With Love, Meghan,” have drawnmixed reactions. Insiders now claim this new series is part of a broader effort to create more conversation-driven content. “The goal now is attention… and conversation,” the source alleged.

NEED TO KNOW

  • “By keeping things separate, we are responsible for our own mess,” the actor said

  • The couple wed in 2002 and welcomed two sons together

Brian Coxis sharing why "space" is the key to keeping his marriage to wife Nicole Ansari-Cox strong.

The 79-year-oldSuccessionstar opened up about his relationship with Ansari-Cox, 57, in a new interview withThe Times, explaining why the couple — who wed in Las Vegas in 2002 — prefer to live apart. In the U.K., they maintain completely separate homes that are a nine-minute walk apart in the Primrose Hill neighborhood of London, per the outlet. They have separate bedrooms at their two U.S. homes, one in Brooklyn and the other in upstate New York.

“By keeping things separate, we are responsible for our own mess,” Cox toldThe Times. “It’s as simple as that. Her space is very important for her, and my space is very important for me. I think if we’re thrown together, we feel locked together, and that’s not a good creative relationship."

He added: "You should be free."

The Scottish actor also credits couples therapy for the strength of their marriage. “Nicole gave up a lot for me. It was tricky for her, but she gave up a lot, and I feel that she needs to be honoured,” he said.

The pair first met when Ansari-Cox saw Cox performing as King Lear in Hamburg, Germany, in 1990, perThe Times. They chatted with each other at an afterparty and became a couple eight years later following a chance meeting in New York.

“We’re about to have our silver wedding,” noted Cox, who shares two sons — Orson, 24, and Torin, 21 — with Ansari-Cox. TheTroyactor is also father to daughter Margaret and son Alan, both of whom he welcomed with his second wife, Caroline Burt.

Praising Ansari-Cox, Cox added, "She’s considerable, she is considerable. She’s one of the most generous and caring people."

"The problem with Nicole, and we discuss this, is she’s got too many friends," he continued. "At my age, I’m trying to get rid of them. Well, most of mine are dying off."

During a 2023 appearance onLive with Kelly and Ryan, Cox reminisced about his 2002 wedding to his wife.

"Well, it's like, stuck in my brain," he said of their nuptials. "It was a very, very — my lovely wife and I decided to get married. We'd actually been apart for a while — she'd been traveling — and then we sat down and we said, 'Where do we go from here? Do we finish or do we go on?' And we thought, 'Well, let's go on and get married.' "

"I think she agreed," he recalled, before asking Ansari-Cox — who was seated in the show's audience at the time — for confirmation. "You agreed, didn't you, honey?"

The pair celebrated their nuptials at the Little White Chapel, and Cox recalled how the mother of their officiant played the piano and chose the theme fromBraveheartfor their walk down the aisle, not knowing that the actor is from Scotland.

Cox also revealed that he and Ansari-Cox initially did not agree on who would officiate their Vegas vows.

"Nicole, I think, was reasonably keen on the idea of Elvis," he explained. "I said, 'No [pretended to censor himself] way!' "

Elsewhere in his conversation withThe Times, the Golden Globe winner, who is set to turn 80 on June 1, revealed how hestays in fighting shape.

“Gym three times a week,” he said. “You really have to be responsible for your body, because it’s dying. You can’t give in to that.”

Cox also said he does all that he can to decrease his odds of developing dementia.

“Yes, you know, there’s all kinds of protocols I can take,” he explained. “I’m very careful about it, because I need to learn my lines to keep working.”

Eiza Gonzalez's Dolce & Gabbana Swimsuit Features Massive Back Cutout

Eiza Gonzálezcontinues to deliver striking beachside moments in her latest Women’s Health photoshoot. This time around, the “Baby Driver” actor opts for multiple swimwear items for the editorial. However, one of the photos stands out, which sees her posing on the sand in a daring Dolce & Gabbana swimsuit that puts a bold twist on classic swimwear design.

Eiza Gonzalez wows in Dolce & Gabbana swimsuit with huge cutout for Women’s Health

Shot along the shoreline, Eiza González appears seated on the sand as waves roll in behind her, creating a dramatic yet natural backdrop. The actor wears a sleek black one-piece by Dolce & Gabbana that blends minimalism with a daring silhouette. From the front, the swimsuit looks simple and put together, but the design reveals its most striking feature from the back.

The piece has a massive open back cutout that dramatically exposes her back while maintaining a sculpted fit through the torso. The bold cutout design adds an element of sensuality while keeping the overall aesthetic refined and modern. The Dolce & Gabbana swimsuit also features extended boy-short style bottoms that reach down to her lower thigh. It appears almost bodysuit-like rather than a traditional high-cut swimsuit.

The beach setting enhances the raw, editorial feel of the photoshoot. Sand dusted across González’s arms and legs gives the images a natural texture, while the crashing waves behind her create a powerful, cinematic atmosphere. Styling for the shoot remains intentionally minimal. González’s dark hair appears wet and tousled, adding to the coastal aesthetic. Meanwhile, her makeup stays soft and bronzed to complement the warm tones of the beach environment. The simplicity of the styling allows the swimsuit’s daring cut to take center stage.

The images are part of González’s larger Women’s Health cover story, which explores her personal journey and evolving career. In theinterview, the actor reflects on her path from early acting roles in Mexico City to breaking into Hollywood with the 2017 film “Baby Driver.”

With its dramatic cutout and striking beachside setting, González’s Dolce & Gabbana swimsuit moment proves that a bold silhouette can make just as powerful a statement as high-fashion looks.
