Tori Spelling says her Beverly Hills, 90210 character's virginity was "a badge of honor" — but she still wondered how quickly that particular storyline would resolve itself.

On the latest episode of 9021OMG podcast – which Spelling cohosts with Jennie Garth, who played Kelly Taylor on the Fox series – the 52-year-old actress chatted about her character Donna Martin's virginity, which she didn't lose until her last night of college in season seven, in sharp contrast to many other characters on the show.

Spelling's character lost her virginity to her long-time boyfriend David (Brian Austin Green) in season seven, while the moment came much earlier for other characters. By comparison, Brenda (Shannen Doherty) lost her virginity to her boyfriend Dylan (Luke Perry) at prom back in season 1 while Brenda's twin brother Brandon (Jason Priestley) had his first time just four episodes into the show.

On the pod, Garth asked Spelling if she was glad her character lost her virginity in season seven, or if she would have preferred Donna wait until later in the series, which aired for 10 seasons.

"I feel like in my youth, I was always very much — it was a badge of honor to be able to be a virginal symbolism to so many women and men out there," Spelling said. "So, Donna was like — I felt like very special to be able to have that. But at some point, I was like, 'I kind of just want her to lose it. Like, what's the next step?'"Spelling continued: "We're always talking about the same storyline. She can't, you know, move on story wise until we get to that point. So I remember when it was happening, I was like, 'Oh, finally.'"

She added that she thought it would be "too much" for Donna to wait until her wedding night — which took place during the series finale — to lose her virginity, saying, "It would have been too much stimulation for people to see the wedding and then the wedding night."

In an earlier episode of the podcast, Spelling spoke with 90210 producer and writer Charles Rosin about the reason Donna famously remained a virgin for so long — saying it was largely her father Aaron Spelling's decision.

"I remember very clearly when he said to me, you know, that Donna should be a virgin," Rosin said of Aaron. "And it was like, 'Yes, absolutely she should.'"

When Spelling asked Rosin if it was "literally" her late dad's idea, he answered unequivocally, "Oh, absolutely."

"I never knew where it came from," Spelling said of the decision. "I always suspected, and people say, like, 'He kept his daughter virgin.'"
